Together with the establishment of the first block of apartment buildings in Kiryat Sanz, the Talmud Torah "Darchei Avot" was constructed. "Chinuch" (education) remains the first priority in Kiryat Sanz. A tremendous amount of thought and energy is invested in this field. In the spacious complex of the Talmud Torah, approximately 800 students receive their education today, ranging in age from kindergarten through 13 years. There are 4 kindergartens, 8 grades with several parallel classes per grade, and one preparatory class where students are readied for their entry into the Yeshiva. The students also have their own shul (synagogue) on premises, providing them with access to Torah study and prayer under one roof, an expansive library, a yeshiva for especially diligent children, activity groups and youth organizations and a large and spacious playground.
The staff, comprised of talented, well-trained and experienced teachers in the field of education, is responsible for orchestrating the holy task of instructing and educating the young children and budding scholars. They educate and guide the young generation in "Darchei Avot" into acquiring Torah and good deeds, fear of Heaven, belief in the Sages, Hassidism and ethics which are instilled in them while they are still young, like "a tree planted on rivulets of water." The Talmud Torah conducts a long day of studies. A unique quality of the institution, besides general studies, is the special attention given to the development of good character traits, politeness, and social manners. The young tots, who will soon become mature boys, receive all their vitality from the Talmud Torah.
After the age of Bar Mitzva, studies are continued in the Yeshiva Ketana. In the evenings the Talmud Torah children have the organized activity of the "Yeshiva HaMatmidim". During those hours the students review what they studied that day, as well as from previous days, and then learn additional material. The study and review are done in a pleasant atmosphere, with prizes offered for encouragement. These young students, with their curled payot (sidelocks), their courteous manner and proper behavior, create a genuine atmosphere of trust for a bright future, for they are being educated according to the unadulterated values of our Jewish heritage.
